We are posting homeschool days and other family friendly events to make it easier for homeschool families to find experiential learning opportunities in the SE USA. Feel free to post questions or input about the event. If your question goes unanswered for 24 hours you should contact the venue directly so they can assist you.

This Summer — Join us for Brain Train!

Hop aboard the Brain Train to create, invent, and experiment! Join us on the second Wednesday and Saturday of each month for a summer S.T.E.A.M. workshop. Each workshop will focus on a different train-themed topic and will include an introduction plus hands-on experimentation. Create, test, refine, and perfect your invention!

Time: Wednesdays 10 am — 1 pm, Saturdays 1 pm — 4 pm (Drop-in anytime!)

Admission: Included with general admission. FREE for members.

Ages: This program is best for kids in K-5th grade and their adults. Older and younger siblings are welcome to attend! Younger children may require adult assistance.

June 13 and 16, 2018: Train Design

Why are some trains large and some small? Why do diesel and steam locomotives look different? Explore form and function at this month’s Brain Train! Design and create a vehicle to travel over different surfaces.

July 11 and 14, 2018: Art of the Locomotive

Gain a new perspective on train-related artwork! Explore the technique of perspective, create your own artwork, and investigate how paintings can bring the story of the Great Locomotive Chase to life. Create your own train-inspired work of art!

August 8 and 11, 2018: Dots and Dashes

Do you think you could send a message with only dots and dashes? Try using Morse code! Before cell phones and walkie talkies, people used the telegraph to communicate over long distances. Build your own telegraph and discover how it works!
