The Art of Transformation: Where Ayurveda Meets Yoga
With Marc Holzmam
Jan 12th-14th, 2018
Friday — The Pranic Body and Ayurveda
Yoga and Ayurveda fit seamlessly together at the nexus of Prana (Life Force). Now more than ever, in our fast and furious lives, we need to recognize Pranic imbalances in ourselves and in our students so that we can be of optimal service. By becoming more attentive to Prana—and enhancing and directing its flow through the practices of hatha yoga—we can invigorate the body and mind, develop an expanded inner awareness, and open the door to higher states of consciousness. These workshops are suitable for both teachers and serious students of yoga.
In these modules we will:
• Examine how Prana moves through the body
• Consider the five Vayus (sub-pranas) from an Ayurvedic perspective.
• Learn how the subtle doshas (Prana Tejas and Ojas) relate to Vata, Pitta, and Kapha
• Create a home or class practice that will pacify doshic disturbances
• Learn how Restorative poses can nourish Ojas (Vitality) and support Prana
Friday 1:30 – 5:00pm
Here we dive into Ayurvedic theory in relation to Prana and its five offspring, the Vayus. We’ll engage in short hatha practices to enhance the flow of the Vayus and learn to identify signs of Pranic imbalances.
Friday 5:30 – 8pm
Ojas is the subtle essence that is responsible for life, radiant health, strong immunity, vigor, longevity and overall well-being. It’s also the ‘seat’ of Prana. In this module we will dive into practices, mostly restorative, that will nourish our Ojas, so that our Tejas (radiance) and Prana (life force/circulation) can flow maximally.
Saturday & Sunday – Where Ayurveda Meets Yoga
How do we live an optimal human life?
Ayurveda and Yoga are inseparable sisters that merge seamlessly to find answers to this age-old question. Both originate as part of a greater system of Vedic knowledge and rely on each other to maximize our well-being and to serve as a roadmap to a life well-lived. If Ayurveda is the Science, Yoga is the practice of that science. As teachers, our understanding of Yoga amplifies when we embrace all traditions that inspire it. In this training module, we will take an in-depth dive into the nuts and bolts of Ayurveda by exploring:
• History and Purpose
• Gunas, Elements, and 3-dosha theory
• The 24- hour Ayurveda clock
• Daily and Seasonal Routines
• Ayurveda Yoga Sequences
• Spices for Healing
Our intention is to bring the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda into our contemporary lives in a fun, practical, and relevant way. By upleveling your own self-care, you’ll foster a deeper connection with Life, your students, and your Self.
Saturday 9:30a – 1:00p
Introduction to Ayurveda through 3 Dosha Theory
Gunas, Elements, and Doshas are the building blocks of Ayurveda theory. In this module we will learn the history and applications of Ayurveda followed by a delicious backbend practice
Saturday 2:30 – 7:00p

Agni – Understanding Digestion and Spice as Medicine
Agni is praised in Ayurveda as the fire of digestion. In Yoga, it’s the process of transformation into the most refined version of YOU. In this module, we learn how to maximize our digestion, use spices, and dive into a soothing hatha practice of hip openers, forward folds, mantra and meditation.
Sunday 9:30a – 12:30p
The Ayurveda Clock: Aligning with Daily and Seasonal Rhythms
Easeful living rests upon synching up with Mother Nature. Three Doshas exist not only in the body/mind but also within the day, each season, and a lifespan. Here we will learn how to clean up our habits and fine tune our daily rituals (Dinacharya). Twists are on the Hatha menu to kindle the Agni and prepare us for healthy digestion (and lunch).
Sunday 2:00 – 5:00p
Self-Care Practice & Forward Folds
This is the hands-on, how-to portion of our weekend where we learn how to clean and clarify the sense organs, oil the body, and refine our self-care practices. We’ll end our weekend sweetly with forward folds and active restoratives.
