A Hero for Every Girl:
Four Authors Discuss Powerful Girls in Kidlit
Authors: Claire Legrand (author) (Some Kind of Happiness), Heidi Schulz Books (Hook's Revenge, NYT Bestseller), Kat Yeh (The Truth About Twinkie Pie), Mackenzi Lee, Author (This Monstrous Thing)

What is a hero? A warrior? A big sister? A daydreamer? A pirate? We believe that all of these can be heroes. We believe it's important for young readers to see many kinds of heroes--and courage--in the stories they read. Especially girl heroes. Brash and shy, angry and scared, brainy and dreamy--the girls in our stories are all of these. They make mistakes; they make art. They fight with swords and magic, with words and love. All of them are brave. And all of them change their worlds for the better.

Moderated by Mackenzi Lee (author of This Monstrous Thing and curator of the popular weekly Twitter feature #BygoneBadassBroads), this panel will explore how important it is for all children to see a variety of powerful girls in the books they read. The authors will also discuss what inspired them to create their powerful girl characters and answer questions about the writing process.
